Umrah Visa Process
Umrah Visa: Complete Guide to Your Application
Planning your spiritual journey to Makkah and Madinah begins with obtaining the right visa. This guide walks you through every option, requirement, and step β so you can focus on your pilgrimage, not the paperwork.
Visa Options: Which One Is Right for You?
Saudi Arabia offers two main visa routes for pilgrims. Understanding the difference will help you choose the best option for your situation.
Best for pilgrims who want a guided, all-inclusive experience and don't mind the agency handling logistics.
Best for independent travelers who want full control over their schedule, accommodations, and budget.
Who Is Eligible for the Tourist e-Visa?
You can apply for the faster, more affordable tourist e-Visa if you fall into one of two categories:
General Requirements
Regardless of which visa type you choose, make sure you have the following documents ready before applying:
- π Valid passport β Must be valid for at least 6 months from your date of application. Include a clear scan of the information page.
- πΈ Passport-sized photos β Recent photos meeting Saudi visa specifications (white background).
- π Vaccination records β Proof of required immunizations, including the meningococcal (ACWY) vaccine taken at least 10 days before arrival. Check our vaccinations page for the full list.
- βοΈ Travel itinerary β Confirmed round-trip flight details and hotel reservations.
- π¨βπ©βπ§ Proof of relationship (if applicable) β Documents showing the relationship between a woman and her Mahram, if required by your circumstances.
Step-by-Step Application Process
Use the comparison above to decide between the Dedicated Umrah Visa (via a licensed travel agency) and the Tourist e-Visa (apply online yourself). If you're eligible for the e-Visa, it's almost always the better choice.
Online (e-Visa): Use the official Saudi eVisa portal if you are eligible. This is the fastest method β often approved within minutes to 24 hours.
Authorized Agent: Work with a travel agency licensed by the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah. They will handle both the visa and, if needed, your Umrah package.
Collect clear copies of all required documents listed above. Make sure your passport scan is high quality with all text fully legible, and that your photos meet the white background specification.
Complete the online form or hand your documents to your authorized agent. Double-check all information before submitting β errors can delay processing. Apply well in advance of your travel dates, especially during Ramadan and peak seasons.
Processing for e-Visas is often very quick (sometimes within minutes), but always plan ahead. Once approved, your e-Visa is sent via email. Download and print it to present at the airport upon arrival in Saudi Arabia.
After your visa is issued, register on the Nusuk platform β the official Saudi system for managing your pilgrimage. Wait 24β48 hours after visa issuance before registering, as your details need time to sync. Through Nusuk you can book your Umrah permit, accommodation, and access other pilgrimage services.
