Umrah Visa Process

Umrah Visa Guide 2026 – Guide To Umrah

Umrah Visa: Complete Guide to Your Application

Planning your spiritual journey to Makkah and Madinah begins with obtaining the right visa. This guide walks you through every option, requirement, and step β€” so you can focus on your pilgrimage, not the paperwork.

Visa Options: Which One Is Right for You?

Saudi Arabia offers two main visa routes for pilgrims. Understanding the difference will help you choose the best option for your situation.

πŸ“‹ Dedicated Umrah Visa
Validity Single entry, 90 days
Estimated Cost $150 – $300 via travel agent
How to Apply Through a licensed travel agency
Flexibility Low β€” often requires a bundled package

Best for pilgrims who want a guided, all-inclusive experience and don't mind the agency handling logistics.

✈️ Tourist e-Visa (Allows Umrah) β˜… Recommended
Validity Multiple entry, 1 year (90 days/visit)
Estimated Cost $110 – $140 (official portal)
How to Apply Entirely online β€” no agent needed
Flexibility High β€” book flights & hotels yourself

Best for independent travelers who want full control over their schedule, accommodations, and budget.

πŸ’‘ Our Recommendation The Tourist e-Visa is faster, cheaper, and far more flexible. If you're eligible (see below), it's the best option for most independent pilgrims β€” you can apply in about 15 minutes and often receive approval within 24 hours.

Who Is Eligible for the Tourist e-Visa?

You can apply for the faster, more affordable tourist e-Visa if you fall into one of two categories:

Category 1 β€” Eligible nationalities (~49 nations)
Citizens of approximately 49 countries can apply directly, including the US, Canada, the UK, most of Europe, Australia, Malaysia, Singapore, and South Africa. Verify your eligibility on the official Saudi e-visa portal.
Category 2 β€” Holders of US, UK, or Schengen visas
If your nationality isn't in Category 1, you may still be eligible for an e-Visa or Visa on Arrival if you hold valid permanent residency or a valid, previously-used tourist visa for the United States, United Kingdom, or any Schengen-area country.
⚠️ Note on Mahram requirements The requirement for women under 45 to travel with a male guardian (Mahram) has been significantly relaxed by Saudi authorities as part of Vision 2030 reforms. Women of all ages can now apply for the tourist visa and perform Umrah independently. Always verify current regulations before booking.

General Requirements

Regardless of which visa type you choose, make sure you have the following documents ready before applying:

  • πŸ“„ Valid passport β€” Must be valid for at least 6 months from your date of application. Include a clear scan of the information page.
  • πŸ“Έ Passport-sized photos β€” Recent photos meeting Saudi visa specifications (white background).
  • πŸ’‰ Vaccination records β€” Proof of required immunizations, including the meningococcal (ACWY) vaccine taken at least 10 days before arrival. Check our vaccinations page for the full list.
  • ✈️ Travel itinerary β€” Confirmed round-trip flight details and hotel reservations.
  • πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§ Proof of relationship (if applicable) β€” Documents showing the relationship between a woman and her Mahram, if required by your circumstances.

Step-by-Step Application Process

1
Determine which visa type suits you

Use the comparison above to decide between the Dedicated Umrah Visa (via a licensed travel agency) and the Tourist e-Visa (apply online yourself). If you're eligible for the e-Visa, it's almost always the better choice.

2
Choose your application method

Online (e-Visa): Use the official Saudi eVisa portal if you are eligible. This is the fastest method β€” often approved within minutes to 24 hours.

Authorized Agent: Work with a travel agency licensed by the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah. They will handle both the visa and, if needed, your Umrah package.

3
Gather and prepare your documents

Collect clear copies of all required documents listed above. Make sure your passport scan is high quality with all text fully legible, and that your photos meet the white background specification.

4
Submit your application

Complete the online form or hand your documents to your authorized agent. Double-check all information before submitting β€” errors can delay processing. Apply well in advance of your travel dates, especially during Ramadan and peak seasons.

5
Await approval and receive your visa

Processing for e-Visas is often very quick (sometimes within minutes), but always plan ahead. Once approved, your e-Visa is sent via email. Download and print it to present at the airport upon arrival in Saudi Arabia.

6
Register on Nusuk

After your visa is issued, register on the Nusuk platform β€” the official Saudi system for managing your pilgrimage. Wait 24–48 hours after visa issuance before registering, as your details need time to sync. Through Nusuk you can book your Umrah permit, accommodation, and access other pilgrimage services.

⏰ Timing tip Apply as early as possible, especially if traveling during Ramadan or school holiday periods. Even though e-Visa approvals are often fast, it's best not to leave it to the last minute β€” processing times can increase significantly during peak seasons.

Official Resources

Always verify the latest requirements directly through official Saudi government channels, as regulations and procedures can change.

Looking for licensed travel agencies? If you need the Dedicated Umrah Visa, search for agencies licensed by the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah in your country. They can assist with your visa application and, if needed, a full travel package.

You're one step closer Once your visa is approved, the hardest part is done. Explore our Umrah Steps guide to learn what to do once you arrive in the holy cities, or visit our Umrah Preparation Hub for comprehensive planning resources. May your pilgrimage be blessed and accepted.
